Library Policies for Remote Classes and University Temporary Closure

Quick guide for students in regards to the closure of the library during the University closure

What to Know

Beeghly Library will be physically closed to the public starting Friday, March 22nd until further notice due to campus closure.

However, we will still strive to provide our students and faculty with the best service as possible during this time.

Our online chat, main phone line, and various emails will be closely monitored to help you with any questions of concern you might have. We will  have limited online hours on the weekends.

In addition, our online resources will still be available. You can find a listing of our databases here and a link to our catalog here. Research guides on a variety of subjects are also available to help you here. To log-in to the databases remotely, you will just need your last name and your library barcode number, which is a 11 digit number above the barcode on your Heidelberg ID card.

The library staff will do our best to help you with finding resources and giving research aid, so please contact us for virtual research consultations and help in finding or accessing anything.

For the fastest, most up-to-date information on our hours and services, please find us on Facebook or on Twitter (@HU_Beeghly).

Our current operating hours for our online chat and email are as follows:

Monday-Thursday: 9:00am- 9:00pm

Friday: 9:00AM-5:00pm

Saturday: 10:00am-2:00pm

Sunday: 1:00pm-9:00pm

General Borrowed Materials

Just as with OhioLINK and Opal, materials borrowed from Beeghly Library will be automatically renewed for you and no late fines will accrue. However, you are free to drop materials off at the book drop-off at the front of the library.

If you are graduating or will not be returning to Heidelberg in the Fall, please contact us to discuss returning your materials via another method at

OhioLINK and Interlibrary Loan

Our borrowing services, OhioLINK and OPAL, will not be active at this time. Many of our partner institutions in these groups are also closing and will not be sending materials out. However, any materials you currently have checked out via these services will be renewed by us and no late fees will accrue!

Please email us at if you have any questions or concerns.

Interlibrary Loan borrowing will proceed in a limited format: No physical materials can be requested, but materials that can be requested as pdfs, such as journal articles or book chapters, can be requested and we will attempt to borrow it from other open institutions.
Please see our forms for requesting materials through interlibrary loan here
